2021 was certainly a challenging year but in spite of this we are delighted to report on some fantastic Calderdale Framework implementations. Here are a few highlights but, as is often the case this, is what we have done or got to hear about.

Nationally
We are very proud to have been commissioned by Macmillan to coproduce their Macmillan Person Centred Care Competency Framework.
This unique, ambitious, forward thinking resource cross cuts the 4 Nations, health and social care, professional boundaries and educational requirements in order to genuinely focus on ensuring the common needs of patients living with, and affected by, cancer are met. Bold and innovative, we urge you to have a look at this via Macmillan and put service users at the heart of your workforce transformation planning.
Regionally
Covid 19 led to redeployment on a scale and speed that has not been seen in recent times. Whilst initial plans were intuitive, they didn’t all meet the needs of patients or staff. The Calderdale Framework was used to identify the optimal skill set redistribution across nursing and AHP in an acute and community setting. This document is available to other organisations. Whilst we hope future surges will reduce there will still be, for years to come, the need to develop and support staff to work very differently : safety being a priority.
Locally
We are very excited to share another first with you this year!
This time it’s with our local hospice, Overgate. This sector is also under pressure as a result of Covid and has developmental requirements due to shifting demands from commissioners and the changing face of the cancer journey. The Calderdale Framework was used to identify the competencies and training required by both non-registered and registered staff around 3 key areas…
- Rehabilitation
- End of life care
- Pressure area care
This will reduce the risk of de-conditioning for patients in the hospice for symptom management and respite, reduce the risk of pressure area damage and ensure registered nurses are available in a timely way to undertake elements of care only they can do.
We are hoping to share outcomes of this project later in the year.
