After what can only be described as phenomenally challenging we said farewell to 2020; only to be seemingly engulfed by 2021.
With all eyes on the mounting daily clinical challenges we want to bring workforce transformation back into centre stage.
Never more has the need to rapidly adapt and keep adapting been required. The impact of Covid 19 on the health and social care system will require ongoing innovation to meet demands – this includes developing, nurturing and transforming the workforce.
We have worked with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust to establish a detailed understanding of staff redeployment and skill sets required to help the workforce be better placed to meet this very difficult situation. Whist this paper references the many national guidelines it also provides a prioritisation if training required both in this epicentre phase but moving out into recovery and business as usual.
Some changes we suggest need to stay; these will support Discharge to Assess models of care and build flexibility and resilience into all services going forward. Our human resource is not infinite but the way we can support that resource and develop and nurture it is.
We look forward to continuing to work with services across health, social care, third and private sector to continue developing Calderdale Framework evidence base; it’s quite incredible what can be done!
Best wishes for 2021!
